Suzhou Suxiang Yongchangjing Waterfront Landscape Design

The Suzhou Suxiang Yongchangjing Waterfront Landscape Design is a large-scale waterfront masterplan located within the Suxiang Cooperative Economic Development Zone in Xiangcheng District, Suzhou.
Covering approximately 138 hectares, the project aims to transform the Yongchangjing River into a vibrant ecological corridor that integrates urban development, public recreation, tourism and environmental restoration.

Project Overview.

Positioned as one of the primary landscape gateways into the development zone, the waterfront is envisioned as a multifunctional public destination that strengthens
the relationship between water, nature and the surrounding communities.

The masterplan establishes a continuous green network connecting residential neighbourhoods, commercial districts and industrial areas to Cao Hu Lake while promoting sustainable urban growth.

Landscape Design.

The masterplan introduces a diverse range of landscape environments that support both environmental sustainability and active public use. Waterfront promenades, ecological wetlands, open lawns, viewing platforms, recreational parks
and community gathering spaces are carefully arranged to provide year-round activity while improving the river’s ecological health.

The design also strengthens connections between surrounding residential communities, commercial districts, industrial developments and tourism destinations through an integrated network of pedestrian and cycling routes.

Public spaces are designed to accommodate leisure, outdoor events, cultural activities, sports and educational experiences, creating a lively and inclusive waterfront environment.

Design Vision

Inspired by the philosophy that “Water Sustains All,” the design celebrates water as the defining element of the landscape. The proposal seeks to reconnect people with the river through a series of accessible waterfront spaces, ecological habitats, recreational destinations and cultural experiences.

The landscape encourages walking, cycling, outdoor recreation and community engagement. By integrating ecological restoration with urban placemaking, the project transforms the river into a vibrant civic destination while enhancing the environmental quality of the surrounding development.

Sustainability .

Environmental sustainability is the foundation of the masterplan. The project proposes an integrated water management strategy that combines ecological wetlands, rainwater harvesting, stormwater treatment, habitat restoration and biodiversity enhancement to improve water quality and strengthen climate resilience.

The landscape also incorporates green infrastructure, native planting, ecological corridors and flood management measures that support long-term environmental performance while providing attractive and functional public spaces for the community.
